Location Wingecarribee Southern Highlands
Artist Type Semi Professional
I am a photographic artist that aims to realise the intuitive and mystical presence in the Australian landscape. I achieve this via in-camera multiple exposures (in a single frame) and applying encaustic wax to the cotton based print.
- About
Our view of nature is recurring, repetitive and unevolving. Trees, water, earth…perceptual differences of species and genus remain but our conception of nature as a whole is by-and-large fixed, almost immutable, from a young age.
I create landscapes to challenge that static perception by photographically blending macro and the micro perspectives. The scribble of a gum here, the red earth, a supine skull of a marsupial all held together tonally by the sense of heat of the bush throughout...intimate Australian landscapes. I use multiple photographic exposures and imbue a sense of mystery and mysticism through the application of a veil of encaustic wax.
- Biography
After completing a Bachelor of Commerce I travelled through Africa for 18 months overland. I worked as a video journalist for the South African equivalent of 60 minutes for 5 years and completed a Masters in Human Rights (University of London). After moving to Australian in 2008 I began working as a professional landscape photographer (classic, epic....macho....images of Australia), producing a product (Acrylic Photo Blocks) for 8 years which I used to exhibit and sell my imagery from my own gallery in Bundeena. In early 2014 I moved to Berrima with my wife and two children and in 2017 began focusing on 'creating a style' for my work. In 2018 I began experimenting with encaustics on my photographs that I (personally) print to 100% cotton.
