I strive to create everyday objects in wood that are pleasing to the eye and the touch and a joy to use. I try to put art and beauty into objects we use every day in our life to give that extra pleasure we all deserve.
I look all around me at nature, its shapes and textures. I observe birds and many other animals and draw inspiration from some of their more peculiar features. I watch waves breaking out on the shore and I marvel at patterns drawn by water on sand and the way water arranges stones in streams. From that I derive the main lines of my design and the surface finishes. My main media is wood but at times I incorporate other materials and I use a bit of colour in the form of stains to impart a special character. Often I create a "canvas" for my work by using the lathe, then I carve that "canvas" into a final piece.
I was born and bred in Italy where I had my formal education. In 1985 I moved to Australia. For many years I was fascinated by wood and woodcraft. During my years travelling around the South Pacific I collected many carvings and my love for wood grew exponentially. In 2008 I had an opportunity for a sea change and I embraced the artist quest with determination. I had many mentors in Australia and New Zealand, some of the best wood artists in the world, and I also attended a few courses at the National Art School in Sydney. After moving to the Southern Highlands of NSW I could finally build my studio on my property making things easier and more pleasant for me.
